The Crisis
More than 800 million adults in the world are illiterate. UNESCO reports that the lack of education exasperates extreme poverty as people lose the ability to effectively communicate or obtain the skills to survive in a complex society. Providing services such as teaching English as a second language is a powerful means of helping underprivileged people as well as providing a means of sharing the hope that is in Christ. Refugees trying to survive in a developing world are at a major disadvantage for employment and social integration. Education is a means of equality which again is clearly the heart of God.
